20.000 leagues under the sea. Plan de trabajo - Task for the students

Reading task - Lesson plan
Teacher: Ana Suárez  -  Adapted version  -  Date: March - June 2020
Subject:  English - Task:  1st Reading 20.000 thousan leagues under the sea. 2nd Do individial and group activities.
Objective: improve reading abilities, vocabulary and oral communication. Study the genre, the autor and literary elements of the novel.
Standars: interactions with other readers, learning word meaning by identification strategies, communication skills, applying knowledge of language structure, and geography, science andart.
Indicators: understand the literary elements of setting, characters, plot, symbols, themes, and point of view.
Materials/Resources: book chosen from the department with a basic level. Students own notes, pen-drive, digital board and projector
Procedures: 1st: each group of students will have to write the answers to the questions given by the teacher on a document, this will outline what the students will talk about, in a presentation, without reading. Each group will focus on a topic assigned. 2nd: Every student will finally select one preferred topic to write a composition.

Topics asigned to groups will be publish at the moment of reading the book in class.

How to work with vocabulary.
Try to discover the meaning through the context.
Think of possible synonyms and antonyms
If an unknown word is repeated, look up the meaning in the dictionary. You can use http://www.wordreference.com/
Write your own glossary
How to present it.
Students will give a brief oral presentation (less than 3 minutes) with visual support. (Scan some pictures of characters, landscape, etc. and insert them on a word document)
Students will show the images of their documents while talking about the book.
Students will not read any text while giving the presentation
Evaluation: their speaking (fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary) and communicative skills (easy projection of ideas) will be evaluated, as well as the ability to summarize and cover the essentials and prompts required for the task. Also team work ability gained and shared through the reading will be taken into account.
